How to Make Crummy Apple Pie
Growing up my dad would make jokes about how “crummy” the apple pie was–even though it was delicious. The reason for the crummy jokes were based on the Apple Crumb Pie my mother made. It was so good and sweet that his complement to her was how he talked about the quality of the pie while devouring every last crumb. He would tell others that the pie was so “crummy” they shouldn’t eat it (leaving more for him to enjoy!). The following is the same recipe she used and it is still as delicious as when she made it. I recommend Fuji apples based on my personal observations over the years on how well the apples cook and the flavors of the pie are enhanced with the super sweet, juicy variety.

How To Steps to Make the Crummy Apply Pie
Step 1: Prepare the pie shell and create a fluted edge as shown. DO NOT bake the shell. (How to make homemade pie crust).
Step 2: Prepare the apples: Rinse with cold water then cut apples in quarters. Remove seeds and skin. Slice thinly (1/16th of the apple per slice) and place in a large Pampered Chef mixing bowl.
Step 3: Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon to the apples.
Step 4: Add 1/2 cup sugar to the apples.
NOTE: You can mix the cinnamon with the sugar before adding to the apples to get a more even distribution of the spice.
Step 5: Mix well coating all the apple slices.
Step 6: Fill the UNBAKED pie shell with the apple mixture.
NOTE: Be careful not to puncture the shell while moving the apples around. Arrange apples to fill in all space especially around the edge of the crust.
How to Make the Crumb Topping
Step 7: Combine remaining sugar, flour and margarine in a small Pampered Chef mixing bowl. Using a fork mixing until crummy.
Step 8: Carefully dump or spoon topping mixture over the apples. Be sure to cover all of the apples.
Step 9: Bake the pie for 40 minutes at 400 degrees or until done. NOTE: Do not under bake to prevent crunchy apples. TIP: If the top of the pie is browning too quickly, cover loosely with a piece of foil.
Step 10: Carefully remove pie from the oven and allow to cool before serving. For better flavor, refrigerate overnight.
Serve with vanilla ice cream sprinkled with cinnamon for a delicious treat!
