It is a versatile vegetable and can enhance flavors in your favorite dishes such as chili, bean soup, as a topping for hamburgers and sausages, in tacos, or on a salad. Many varieties of onions exist, but pealing an onion is a basic task. The following will provide the how to on pealing an onion.

What You Will Need

  • Cutting Board
  • Sharp Knife
  • Onion

Pealing an Onion

Step 1: Begin pealing the onion by cutting off the small end of the onion and discard the piece.

Step 2: Turn the onion around and carefully cut off the large end of the onion and discard the piece.

Step 3: Lay the onion on its side and carefully cut through the first layer (very thin) of onion.

Step 4: Using your thumb, grip the first layer and pull it off of the onion and discard the pealing.

Step 5: The onion is completely pealed and is ready for use. You can chop it up, slice or place it in a blender to finely mince the onion for sauces or gravy.
