How to Save Money Using Scrip Cards

How to Find Scrip Cards

Our community has Scrip cards available through various organizations such as the school, independent athletic teams, and other non-profit programs. “Thousands of non-profit organizations across the United States are joining together with retailers to raise money. They do it with “Scrip” the revolutionary fundraising method that can raise tens of thousands of dollars for your non-profit organization without the hassles of traditional fundraisers.”

How the Scrip Card Program Works

With scrip fundraising, your member families simply do their regular weekly shopping with gift cards from America’s favorite retailers. With each purchase, your organization earns cash rebates that can quickly add up to tens of thousands of dollars a year – money that can be used for tuition assistance, travel, field trips or whatever your organization needs.

How to Benefit by Using Scrip Cards

Many non-profits raise money as a whole community to purchase community improvements. But your organization may have fees associated with events that parents have to pay for each time a child participates in the event. Swimming competitively has many added cost such as the cost for participation in swim meets. If your organization becomes a member of the Scrip program then each member would benefit. Our swim club is through the YMCA. Since this is a non-profit organization, the club can use the Scrip program. To pay for swim meet fees, our escrow accounts are linked to our individual Scrip cards. For example, we use gift cards from Krogers. This is a national grocery store chain in our area. Every time I load $100 onto my gift card (at once or combination of money) I receive $4 in my swimmers escrow account with the club.

How to Combine Other Money Saving Techniques With Scrip Cards for Greater Savings

As I mentioned, I use the Scrip program Kroger gift card to earn a 4% cash back. To combine for greater savings, I use my Cash Back Rewards Credit Card to load the gift card.

Example:

Purchase $100 in Kroger Gift Card dollars on my reloadable Scrip gift card using my 2% cash back rewards credit card (earn $2) and earn 4% towards the Swim Escrow account (earn $4). Each time I do this (minimum of once a week/year) I will earn $312 of free money!

Just remember to be fiscally responsible with your spending habits, keep your balance on your credit card paid off, and use the card for purchases you can afford.
